SAN FRANCISCO - August 1, 2013 - DeNA released today The Drowning for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, available exclusively on the App Store. The Drowning is a console-quality first-person-shooter (FPS) game, featuring intense action, high-definition graphics, a unique storyline, and an intuitive control scheme that is a break from clunky virtual joysticks.
"iOS is a spectacularly powerful gaming platform that is always accessible, and The Drowning was created from the ground up for core gamers who want a console-quality experience wherever they are," said Ben Cousins, head of DeNA's European studio operations and general manager of the Scattered Entertainment studio. "Our veteran development team set out to make The Drowning a platform-defining gaming experience with unmatched console-quality graphics combined with a new revolutionary control system that utilizes familiar Multi-Touch gestures. By using just two fingers on one hand, players can shoot, look, move and zoom with the same precision and control as they can with a console game controller."
Set in a gorgeous high-definition world and featuring a grim, suspenseful storyline, The Drowning is experienced through the eyes of one of the few survivors of a mysterious global catastrophe. Fighting for survival in a world where unexplained oil spills have transformed millions into soulless creatures, the player crafts and upgrades a powerful and unique arsenal of weapons as they work alone or with other players to explore, survive and dominate.
"The Drowning combines the proven gameplay mechanics from the East with the most popular Western game genre of FPS," said Clive Downie, CEO of DeNA West. "We could not be more excited to get The Drowning's intense and graphically stunning gameplay in the hands of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch players."
The Drowning is the first game developed by DeNA's Scattered Entertainment studio in Stockholm, Sweden under the leadership of industry veteran and free-to-play visionary Ben Cousins. The game's talented development team has previously worked on many of the most acclaimed and best-selling console shooter franchises of all time including Halo, Battlefield and Far Cry.
