SHUEISHA and DeNA Establish a Joint Venture in Entertainment
TOKYO, JAPAN – January 29, 2019 – SHUEISHA Inc. and DeNA Co., Ltd. today announced their agreement to establish a joint venture to pursue joint business in the field of entertainment on February 21, 2019.
1. Objective for establishing the joint venture
SHUEISHA and DeNA have worked together in a wide variety of areas to date, including games, avatars, planning various collaborations, and on the sale of e-books. The new company, SHUEISHA DeNA Projects Co., Ltd. (tentative), will build on the insights and assets related to the many popular works created by SHUEISHA to date, and skills for creating a variety of merchandise gained through SHUEISHA’s licensing business. From DeNA the new company shall gain experience and knowhow from developing and operating a variety of internet services, and development achievements from multiple businesses. The new company will proactively combine these elements to pursue new initiatives in the entertainment field.
Going forward, we first plan to jointly develop IP games that make use of both companies’ strengths, and new digital entertainment services for both Japan and the world. We will build a structure for collaboration between the two companies and the new joint venture to enable us to provide major contribution to the industry as a whole.
