Toshio Oya, Former Head of the FX Markets Division of the Ministry of Finance of Japan, was Appointed as Newly Created Chief Economist to Enhance International & Financial Expertise and Further Expand DeNA Group Business

TOKYO, JAPAN – September 2, 2024 – DeNA Co., Ltd today announced the establishment of the new office of Chief Economist on September 1, 2024, to which Toshio Oya, the former head of the Foreign Exchange Markets Division of the Ministry of Finance of Japan, was appointed.

DeNA engages in business globally in the gaming, live streaming, and medical fields. In the medical field in particular, the business expansion centered on our subsidiary Allm is accelerating. The medical ICT business has a number of solutions, including Join, a communication app for medical practitioners, and these solutions have been made available in 32 countries cumulatively from this medical ICT company originating from Japan. In light of the recent dramatic fluctuations in exchange rates and stock markets, it is crucial to accurately grasp global economic and financial market trends for the DeNA Group to promote further business development. To that end we have decided to establish a new role of Chief Economist to advise management from a macroeconomic perspective.

Toshio Oya was appointed to the new Chief Economist position. At the Ministry of Finance of Japan he served as the head of the Foreign Exchange Markets Division in the International Bureau, head of the Policy Planning and Research Division in the Minister’s Secretariat, Director-General (head) of Personnel and Budget Department, Asian Development Bank (Manila), Senior Managing Director of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, and Director-General of the Cabinet Secretariat & head of the Global Business Investment Support Office, among other roles. At DeNA he will leverage his experience, insight, and network accumulated to date to analyze the global economy and financial markets, and work with various national governments and international development finance institutions.

Oya joined the Ministry of Finance in 1986. He studied abroad at Columbia Law School in New York, and served in numerous rules, including Senior Advisor at the IMF, Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank, Budget Examiner of the Budget Bureau, the Ministry of Finance in charge of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of the Environment, head of the Foreign Exchange Markets Division of the International Bureau, the Ministry of Finance, Assistant Commissioner for international affairs, the Financial Services Agency, head of the Policy Planning and Research Division of the Minister’s Secretariat, the Ministry of Finance, Director-General of Personnel and Budget Department, Asian Development Bank (Manila), Deputy Director-General of the International Bureau of the Minister’s Secretariat, the Ministry of Finance, Senior Managing Director of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Director-General of the Cabinet Secretariat & head of the Global Business Investment Support Office. He joined DeNA in June 2024 as Executive Economist and was appointed Director & Chief Global Investment Officer of DeNA’s subsidiary Allm in July of the same year. In September 2024 he was appointed Chief Economist of DeNA.
